ACTS' Condolences to Dr. Birendra Shrestha’s Bereaved Family

Rev. Dr. Birendra Shrestha was the founding Pastor of Himalayan Community church, Dhumbarahi, Kathmandu, Nepal. He was living with his wife, Samita Shrestha and daughter, Renaissance Shrestha at Kusunti, Lalitpur. He was well known among students as a humble, gentle and encouraging person. He enjoyed playing football and table tennis with students at RPS. Dr. Shrestha had authored four books related to Old Testament in Nepali which many bible colleges and seminaries are using as a textbook for Old Testament courses. Dr. Shrestha was also working as the chief editor of the Nepali Christian Journal which published 8 volumes. Recently, under his direction, the first volume of NITS Theological Journal was also published.
On the evening of February 13th, he had a heart attack while playing football with his students. He was immediately taken to a hospital where he was declared dead by the doctors present. His death has been a huge loss to Nepalese churches.

I am a humble one of so many who had the privilege and honor to serve our LORD close with Rev. Dr. Birendra Shrestha. While he was studying at our school, I was his teacher, his doctoral thesis supervisor, and a blessed friend of him. His academic acumen, his faithful zeal for the Gospel and Christian integrity in terms of cognition, emotion, volition, and action, was always one that I and others had always admired. He was not only a good pastor, intelligent teacher, sweet husband, and father, but above all the beloved child of God.
When I visited Nepal back in 2016 with a small post-earthquake relief from ACTS University community, Dr. Birendra was my guide. We had the opportunity to travel together from Kathmandu to Gorkha for several days, and on the way, I remember him sharing his Missional Vision, which in recent years I have been witnessing its progressive realization. It’s so sad and heartbreaking that for a while I’ll not be able to see him. But I trust his vision will carry on. And on the day when we meet again in heaven, we will be able to see the complete puzzle and the final picture and say “all was ultimately good” according to God’s eternal providence. May the LORD bless Dr. Birendra and give comfort and peace that transcends all our understanding especially to his wife, children and to all those who so loved him. We will miss him so much.
