To the current and prospective students who have to submit dissertation for the graduation

Greetings from AIGS!

As it has been previously informed at the Orientation session, AIGS strongly recommends our students to complete the matriculated degree program within the official academic period.  However, in case the student fails to comply with the official date due to the incompleteness of the thesis writing, the following provisions are available regarding the semester extension with scholarship.

Ph.D.     2 additional semesters (for the writing of dissertation)

Th.M.     1 additional semester  (for the writing of dissertation)

  1) Students are entitled for Room & Board but required to pay for registration fees for the above extended period.

  2) Students must return to home country after the above extended period. Any academic dues, like the writing of dissertation, must be completed outside of Korea.

AIGS has been granting COVID-19 exemptions for the last two years regarding the grace period for the graduation. However, such a temporary extension will officially end as of July 29, 2022. Official in-current regulations and procedures will be re-implemented beginning the Fall Semester 2022 and they are as follows.

1.    Students who have already spent 2 full extension semesters are highly recommended to complete the dissertation by Fall Semester 2022. In case of incompleteness, one will have to leave Korea. Afterwards students will have to arrange an online thesis guidance with the supervisor. Once the student has completed the writing then temporary visits will be allowed for the oral defense and for the commencement. Please carefully refer to the AIGS bulletin board for the thesis submission, schedules and methods.

2.    For those who are spending the second extension semester in Fall Semester 2022, there will be no additional grace period. Afterwards students will have to arrange an online thesis guidance with the supervisor and return to home country. Once the student has completed the writing then temporary visits will be allowed for the oral defense and for the commencement.
